Target Audience

This seminar is designed for certified athletic trainers seeking to advance their career either by moving up in to an administrative role eventually or by stepping out and starting their own business.

Course Learning Objectives

  • Attendees will learn about benefits and challenges when it comes to administrative roles.

  • Attendees will hear about how work-life balance is affected when working in administrative roles and when owning their own business

  • Attendees will be given advice for how to start their own business

Faculty Bios

Mike Doyle, MBA, LAT, ATC: Mike Doyle has been the Administrative Director at Heartland Orthopedic Specialists in Alexandria since 2008 and is currently the Vice President of Orthopedic Services. He has served on numerous athletic training committees with the MATA, GLATA, and the NATA and was a founding member of the Athletic Trainers in the Physician Practice Society. In his free time Mike enjoys spending time with his family doing many outdoor activities such as hunting, hiking in the mountains, and downhill skiing.

Kate Taber, M.Ed, LAT, ATC: Kate has been in various administrative roles at Mayo Clinic Sports Medicine since 2015. She is currently the Operations Manager for the Mayo Clinic Spine Center. She has been very active in the MATA and is currently serving her term as past president. In her free time she enjoys traveling and recreational sports with friends and family.

Alison Caro, MS, LAT, ATC: Alison Caro started as a supervisor at Allina Health in 2017 and is currently a Clinical Manager with Allina Health Orthopedics. Alison enjoys spending time with her husband and children exploring the Twin Cities and traveling to Colorado to visit family.

Emily Buckingham, MS, ATC: Emily is a Co-Owner of F45 Training in West Fargo, ND since 2022. Emily uses her sports medicine expertise to propel the business forward as the Director of Fitness and Studio Performance. Emily enjoys spending time in nature and with her family.

Thomas Truedson, MS, LAT, ATC, CSCS, CST: Thomas is the Owner and Director of Sports Medicine True Sports Performance in Detroit Lakes, MN. True Sports Performance was established in 2020 amidst the COVID pandemic and is focused on bridging the gap between physical therapy and return-to-sport.

Morgan Shea, LAT, ATC, CPT, MFDc: Morgan is the Owner and Founder of May One in Shorewood, Wisconsin. May One is a wellness clinic that focuses on finding the root cause of dysfunction and treating patients holistically. Morgan has expanded the practice to include athletic trainers, physical therapists, and massage therapists.

Minnesota Athletic Trainers' Association is recognized by the Board of Certification, Inc. to offer continuing education for Certified Athletic Trainers. Certified Athletic Trainers are responsible for claiming only those hours actually spent participating in the continuing education activity.
