FAQ's
Will I be alone with my legislator?
We want you to be comfortable and confident with your legislator. For efficiency purposes, members that share a legislator will be grouped together. Each group will have an experienced MATA member to help provide support.
Do I have to be an MATA Member to participate?
Not at all! This day is for anyone who supports Minnesota ATs to be a part of. This includes any athletic trainer (licensed or retired), patient, employer, provider, friend or family. If you or someone you know has a special story to share with a legislator let gac@mnata.com know about it.
Do I need to take the whole day off from work?
Not necessarily! When you register, you’ll be asked for a time frame you could be available at the capitol that day. When meetings are scheduled, we do our best to match the meeting time with the time available for the majority of that legislator’s constituents who will be attending Hit the Hill. Each meeting with your senator and representative will only be 20-30 minutes long, so while we can’t guarantee it, we will do our best to schedule those meetings during your availability. If you’re able to attend for a half day or the full day, we would include you in additional key legislator meetings with MATA Leadership and other members as well if you’d like.
What address do I sign up with if I am a student?
If you are a student, use your Minnesota home town address. If you are a student out of state, you may use your school address.
How will I know what to talk about?
Talking points, information regarding your specific legislator as it relates to our bill, and training resources will be made available to you in the days leading up to Hit the Hill as well as onsite ahead of your meetings. The important thing is that your legislator wants to know about YOU and your work as an ATHLETIC TRAINER. So be ready to talk about your work setting, educational background and the patients your serve.
